Interior design ideas for spring summer 2025

21st February 2025
Redrow - Inspiration - Sunningdale Living Room

With winter behind us, we’re looking at the top interior design ideas for spring summer 2025 to inject the feel-good factor into your new Redrow home.

Alysha Alli, from our in-house interior design team, takes inspiration from the world’s leading trend forecasters to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to styling our homes.

She explained: “When we design a show home, it’s about balancing a classic and timeless look that will appeal to our premium buyers, while introducing elements of innovation to reflect the changing trends. Interiors for spring / summer 2025 are energetic and optimistic, whether you opt for a laid back boho style or turn the volume up with neon brights, there’s a trend to suit everyone.”

Bold wall colours

Reflecting nature’s seasonal changes, spring and summer is always the perfect time to introduce expressive colour into your home. For 2025, colour-drenched rooms with bold shades of paint or wallpaper are making waves.

Alysha said: “Dopamine décor has come to the fore in recent years, which is a phrase coined to describe how your home environment can inspire positivity and boost your mood. This can come in many forms, but your walls are a great place to start. A fast injection of colour can be achieved with wall paint that wraps around two or more sides of your room and can even extend up onto your ceiling.

“You don’t need to use colour on every wall but painting more than one wall in an open-plan room can help to zone your space. For example, a wraparound shade can provide separation for a comfortable seating area that’s part of a larger kitchen and dining room.”

For this season, colour is bringing energy and joy – from hyper brights and dramatic darks. In an update to the tropical trend, those who love maximalism will be drawn to the latest glow-in-the-dark accents and ombre shifts for a surreal finish.

Alysha added: “It’s a move to the next level of biophilic design, which designers are calling ‘hyper-nature ’. Think fantastical tropical prints in bright greens and electric blues contrasted with deeper, richer shades of indigo and teal. Whether you splash these across a wall using a bold wallpaper print or introduce them more subtly through scatter cushions or artwork, the choice is yours.”

Sustainable home design

There is a continuing movement to reject mass produced items in the home in favour of handmade, bespoke pieces. This interiors trend has been coined ‘natural home decor’, and encompasses sustainable materials and natural fibres in earthy tones .

Alysha said: “Taking centre stage this season are products with expressive surface patterns, such as marble lamp tables and side boards with contrasting wood grains. More often it’s natural materials that bring the strongest textural personality, like stone and wood. Their imperfect nature means every piece is unique.

“Recycled or natural fabrics, like sisal, hessian and linen are also providing more eco-friendly choices for soft furnishings like rugs, runners and throws, while suppliers are increasingly opting for low impact products like soft vegan leather to upholster breakfast bar stools and dining chairs.

“Larger scale manufacturers are changing their production techniques to create zero waste products. We’re seeing lighting for the home created using leftover products from larger fabrications and other circular economies emerging which ensure components can live through several lifecycles of a product and save on resources longer term.”

Vintage furniture and artisan pieces

Achieving the ‘natural home decor’ look also includes handcrafted, artisan pieces and upcycled vintage furnishing - embracing restoration is another key way we can all live more sustainably. “By restoring and upcycling vintage pieces or choosing small independent business and artisan makers, we can move towards being more eco-friendly with our interiors,” Alysha said.

“Vintage inspired fabrics like boucle and teddy are still trending and offer an ultra-comfortable feel for sofas and occasional chairs. These materials promote tactile touch, which fosters a sense of relaxation and rest.

“When seeking out vintage pieces for your home, I’d recommend investing in high quality wood, stone and brushed metals. This makes it easy to create sophisticated pairings for products with an elegant appearance.”

Digital crafting techniques

At the other end of the spectrum, creators are progressively looking to digital techniques to give furniture and lighting a futuristic look. “We’re seeing more innovative production methods emerging that are supported by AI,” Alysha said.

“Technology can help us to imitate refined handcrafting techniques and these can also create a surreal appearance. Makers are scaling their work using 3D printing techniques, which aid intricate designs. For example, this digital technology can perfect traditional lattice-weaving for a complex, multi-faceted look, while graphic designers are using mathematical repetition to inspire patterns and prints for wallpapers and fabrics.”

Window dressing

British summer time will officially begin when the clocks go forward on the last Sunday in March and our homes will soon be filled with light for longer periods. Designed to make the most of natural light, the homes we build boast higher ceilings, taller than average windows and doors and open plan areas.

“Window dressings are an important consideration when we’re designing a high-end show home,” said Alysha. “For a premium look, we use materials that provide subtle luxury.”

Blackout blinds can deliver a practical solution to keep the light out and we offer faux wood venetian blinds as an upgrade option for our homebuyers as well as perfect fit blinds as an option for patio doors.

Alysha recommends layering your window dressing with different types of curtains. For north facing room, you may opt for heavy curtains or thermal curtains that retain more heat in winter while, in a south facing room, light cotton curtains could be the perfect choice to enhance the sunlight.

“I always recommend investing in high quality curtains in a neutral tone as they can be a long-term investment, especially if they are made to measure, and you’ll want them to blend seamlessly if you change your décor,” explained Alysha.

“For smaller windows, like those in the kitchen, a patterned blind can make a statement and bring together the colour scheme in your open-plan area.

“In a study or lounge, where privacy takes precedence over sleep, roman blinds, sheer curtains, voiles or linen curtains can be a good choice and you can layer these with stacked dress curtains that don’t need to be drawn. More is more when creating a sumptuous final look.”

Statement lighting

We’ve explored the lighting trends for 2025 and these continue to evolve for spring summer with vibrant lampshades and structural light fittings rising in popularity.

Alysha said: “Statement lighting is one of my favourite ways to set the tone for a room. Lamps and light fittings can provide a sculptural, creative element to your space, working alongside accessories and artwork to add intricacy and interest. For 2025 we’re seeing an array of ceiling light fittings with angular forms and layering, in a mix of metals from silver to polished brass.

“For lamps, bold silhouettes are complemented by bright fabric shades, which add a splash of colour and can brighten up a reading corner or home office.

“Sculptured, textural and matte ceramics are another way to bring in a tactile element to your statement lighting. Whether glazed, matte or rough cast, white ceramics can add a timeless elegance in any space and will always appear a well-considered addition to your home.

Seven directions for interior design trends in 2025

“New interior design trends can both enthuse and surprise,” said Alysha. “There will always be elements that entice us, whether you are working on the blank canvas of a brand new home or simply updating one or two rooms. The joy of interior design is taking your cue from whatever inspires you.”

Alysha has highlighted seven interior design directions to consider for your own home:

  1. FUNctional basics: Combining bold hues and statement shapes will elevate everyday pieces from lamps to kitchen appliances. High end designers are working with whimsical forms to combine the fun with the functional. This includes cartoon or emoji-inspired shapes and icons for a playful tone.
  2. Boho coastal: In a refresh to the nautical collections, woven structures and shell icons are coming to the fore. Evoking holiday memories and anticipation of summer to come, it’s the perfect interior energy for this season .
  3. Low-key luxury: From our boutique hotel inspired bedrooms, bathrooms and en-suites to our refined lounges, luxury is the cornerstone of Redrow’s interior design style. Elegant material pairings promote the low-key premium look such as wood, slate and marble.
  4. Optical illusions: Furniture and accessories that play with perception are big news this year. Transparency and mirror-shine finishes can create a futuristic aesthetic. Designers are combining plexiglass, glass and responsibly produced acrylic featuring streamlined shapes.
  5. Hyper-nature: Hyper neon brights and dramatic darks are refreshing last year’s tropical theme for this spring / summer.
  6. Graphic grains: From bold marble swirls and to statement wood grains, it’s time to embrace and enhance the vivid patterns found in organic materials .
  7. Folk symbolism: Taking its design cue from a combination of practical and creative, folk symbolism infuses furniture and lighting with a spiritual dimension from a myriad of different grassroots cultures.
