Wise Connections is a non-profit buddy system that aims to foster meaningful connections among neurodiverse teens in the Lache area of Chester, who may be feeling lonely and isolated.
It’s the brainchild of Max Wiseman who has Asperger syndrome and wanted to bring the neurodiverse community closer together to feel more supported.
Max has been working with Storyhouse and The Agency since September 2023 to curate a project that will provide young people with opportunities to make social change within their community. He applied to our community fund, linked to Kings Moat Garden Village, and received £800 to deliver a second project.
Max said: “The pilot of Wise Connections was kindly funded by The Agency but I knew I wanted to be able to deliver it to a second group of young people.
“Redrow’s donation will mean we’ll be able to do further sessions. They’ll consist of a walk and talk, a special interest quiz, podcasting, creative workshops and a restaurant visit to celebrate the new friendships.”
Project Manager for The Agency at Storyhouse, Treena Gilson, said: “Max’s desire to connect neurodiverse young people in Lache was evident from the moment he started at The Agency. He firmly believes in the difference Wise Connections will make in his community. His hard work and determination to make his pilot project a success was inspirational. We are delighted the funding from Redrow will help him build on what he has already started and continue to benefit young people in Lache.”
Area sales manager at Redrow NW, Amanda Hollins, said: “Wise Connections is such an important scheme and one that will make a huge difference to teens in the area. We’re really pleased that we were able to help them deliver this to a second group of teenagers and give them the opportunity to build friendships and share experiences.”
