Redrow South Midlands, currently building at Alconbury Weald II, on Senliz Road, presented the junior team at Sawtry and Alconbury Weald Cricket Club with a donation of £500 as part of its Community Fund initiative.
Since moving to their grounds in 2022, the club has provided local children aged five and above with an opportunity to get involved in sport and make new friends – all while improving their mental and physical wellbeing.
Sawtry and Alconbury Weald Cricket Club also helps support children from under-privileged backgrounds engage in sport – often for the first time outside of school. Over the past two years, the club has grown to over 60 junior members and the Alconbury Weald Pavillion has become a focal point for community activities.
Our donation will be used towards helping the club grow further with a new astroturf facility to improve training sessions. The funds will also be used towards purchasing new cricket shirts for children aged between seven and fifteen years old – ensuring they look as good as they perform out on the field.
Now in its fifth year, Redrow South Midland’s Community Fund aims to support local organisations across Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire with donations to help them continue to thrive.
John Dudley, Volunteer at Sawtry and Alconbury Weald Cricket Club, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Redrow South Midlands for this generous donation which will make a huge difference to the junior cricket team.
“In the last few years, we’ve created a team of over 60 junior cricketers and have become a central part of the Alconbury community. We’re very proud of the impact that we’ve had so far – it’s been a delight to watch the youngster’s cricket skills develop and we now can’t wait to put these funds to good use to further enhance their experience of the club and the sport.”
Andrew Newman, Sales Director at Redrow South Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to be helping Sawtry and Alconbury Weald Cricket Club purchase brand new kits for their junior members and build an astroturf training ground.
“The work the club does with Alconbury youngsters of all abilities and backgrounds has become an invaluable part of the local community. We’re pleased to be able to offer our support and look forward to seeing how our contribution will help to create a wonderful cricketer’s community close to Alconbury Weald.”
