SWISH Swim School has been teaching children in North Dorset, Shaftesbury and the surrounding areas how to swim for over 15 years. Following the pandemic, the school, which has over 650 regular swimmers, has encountered an increased number of children struggling to learn in a group swimming environment. This is especially pronounced in older children where they have also seen a need for specific swimming aids designed for older age groups.
Our donation will support over 60 children from age 4 through to 17 by helping the charity to purchase additional swimming aids and provide more one to one lessons, including by upskilling their current teachers.
Lauren Morris, Coordinator at SWISH Swim School, said: “Learning how to swim is an important milestone for children and we’re proud to play such a big role in our community. Since the pandemic we have seen more children struggle in the pool which requires additional resources to help them learn."
“Redrow’s donation will ensure that even more children learn how to swim and make sure no child is left behind. On behalf of everyone at Swish Swim School including our pupils, I would like to thank Redrow for their generous donation.”
The donation was part of our Southern Counties’ Community Fund which launched this year. The fund provides organisations, schools and groups at the heart of the community with donations to help them thrive. We have also provided investment in the areas surrounding their developments including contributions toward education, healthcare, public transport and affordable housing.
Mark Vanson, Sales Director at Redrow Southern Counties, said: “Centres like Swish Swim School are vital to our communities, teaching important skills and bringing people together. We are delighted help them support children and young people in the pool.”
