Designing your new kitchen
The range of options and upgrades available varies between locations and house types, but you can explore the kitchen choices available in your new Redrow home via My Redrow, the members’ only area of our website. You can also book an appointment with the sales team to visit your customer experience suite and use our innovative new kitchen visualiser.
This kitchen visualiser uses real-time computer-generated imagery to let you see your fully customised kitchen. You can use it to test out options and upgrades for cabinets, worktops, flooring and appliances, and see what different choices and combinations look like. You could perhaps add a kitchen island, see if you prefer the look of a glass or Silestone splashback, or perhaps select brushed chrome sockets.
Not sure where to start with kitchen design? Helen Joseph, from our in-house interior design team, shares the latest kitchen design trends, including kitchen decor ideas and tips on creating a dream kitchen.
The 5 best kitchen colour ideas 2024
We offer a choice of contemporary or Shaker style kitchen cabinets in a range of colours and finishes.
- “At Redrow, we’re seeing classic colours at the forefront and in particular pearl grey,” Helen said. “This neutral colour gives you scope to experiment with the colour of your décor, such as adding burnt orange to uplift the space or a dark inky blue to make it cool and contemporary. Pearl grey cabinets look great paired with a silestone worktop with a grey vein.”
- One of the emerging interiors trends is a growth in colour confidence. You can embrace the trend either with your choice of cabinetry, or with kitchen paint, like in our Ledsham show home at Ash Gardens in Waterlooville.
- “We’re also seeing darker, earthy tones coming through in mix and match kitchens – including dark stone finishes with a putty colour will be popular as people look to draw on nature in its rawer state.”
- Neutral kitchens, with a muted aesthetic, will continue to dominate as a classic look that stands the test of time.
- “Elevate the look by adding hardware in finishes of brushed or knurled brass handles that are understated yet have a very glamorous feel,” Helen explained. “Incorporating warmer tones, as seen in our Stratford show home at Oakwood Fields in Warrington, will create a soothing yet sophisticated aesthetic in any space. For example, pair light neutrals with rich undertones of warm baked ochres create a gorgeous harmonious palette.”
3 tips on how to choose kitchen cabinets
Among the Redrow standard options available is to add feature doors to some of your cabinetry.
- One of the Contemporary kitchen styles we offer is Urban Matt Pebble with Grey Walnut – pebble represents the warmer sand colour and coordinates well with the textured woodgrain of Grey Walnut.
- Many of our homes include a dedicated utility, which Helen recommends should be treated as an extension of your kitchen. “Having a dedicated space for appliances you aren’t using daily you will instantly declutter your kitchen counters which will in turn give the feel of a larger more elevated kitchen space,” Helen said.
- Some of our kitchen designs include the option of selecting different style handles. You could embrace the blue kitchen trend and upgrade to Princeton Indigo cabinets. This modern take on a shaker design, as seen in our Oxford show home at Sanderson Park in Bicester features brushed copper accessories, which also reflects the latest kitchen trend for metals. “Metals that lean towards a more antique finish – celebrating the craftmanship and warmer materials – are gaining a lot of deserved attraction,” Helen added.
5 top kitchen countertop trends
- One of the latest kitchen decor trends is to celebrate imperfect finishes and embrace natural forms. “Think silestone or marble worktops, highlighting veining and natural patterns,” Helen explained.
- “Materials such as porcelain and engineered quartz are designed to mimic organic textures that resonate with the natural world, so are great alternatives for more expensive materials,” she said.
- When it comes to kitchen worktop colours, Helen recommends opting for crisp white or earthy tones.
- Coordination is essential so make sure to match the texture between your splashback and worktop. “If your quartz countertop is smooth, opt for a sleek porcelain splashback through large-format tiles or subway patterns. Coordinating your worktops and splashback particularly when installed full or half height opens up the space and allows the material itself to become a design statement and focal point of your décor,” Helen said.
- Colour can also help create the illusion of space in a small kitchen. “Lighter colours, as seen in our Chelford show home at Tabley Park in Knutsford, will reflect more light and make the space feel brighter and more spacious,” Helen explained. “Take it a step further by including finishes with a delicate veining in to add visual depth and interest. Or for a monochromatic look, you could even pair an off-white splashback with grey quartz countertops.”
3 tips on how to design a practical kitchen
- Having enough workspace to prepare meals and storage space for ingredients and equipment is an important factor in kitchen design. Adding an island or breakfast bar, like in the Richmond show home at Hamlet Park in Rainham, are among the options we offer in selected designs to help increase the workspace and storage in your kitchen. You can see how this would look in your new home with our kitchen visualiser tool.
- Storage solutions such plate holders, cutlery trays and butler’s pantry racks can be added as optional extras via My Redrow.
- We include integrated appliances, from a selection of top brand manufacturers, in our kitchens. You can switch brands or the type of appliance. For example, you could choose a double oven, two single ovens or perhaps a combi microwave and single oven or a steam oven. Or you could add a dishwasher or wine cooler.
