The sessions will happen with five different community groups including a dementia group, nursing home and primary school, all within Halewood.
Jill Marquis, choir member and volunteer fundraiser, said: “This project is going to happen over the course of five months and is a great opportunity for us to fulfil the ‘community’ part of our title. We want to reach new members of our community who may not be able to come to our rehearsals or have the opportunity to sing in a group. We’re also going to take this chance to collect feedback on the choir from these community groups to see if there is an appetite for us to continue doing this community outreach.”
Halewood Community Choir has a membership of almost 40 adults with 25 regular attendees and covers its weekly costs with the membership fee but struggle to do anything extra to promote their group in the community.
“This project will bring singing to a much wider section of residents than is possible currently, by meeting groups on their own familiar settings and by removing any cost. It will also help our members to gain a sense of achievement because they can share their skill with others,” added Jill.
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW, said: “Halewood Community Choir has a great opportunity to be more visible and attract more members through this pilot. Not only can likeminded people come together, but it will also have numerous benefits including reducing social isolation and giving people the chance to make new friends.”
The money received by the choir came from our £10,000 Halewood community fund that has been shared between 12 groups and good causes close to the Hilton Grange development.
