Halewood wildlife project boosted by Redrow

19th May 2025
Redrow News Redrows Dawn Morters and Tony Day

A dedicated volunteer group that cares for Halewood Park is improving its orchard and meadowland thanks to funding from Redrow’s community fund.

The H.O.M.E (Halewood Orchard and Meadowland Environment) programme will increase the biodiversity of the orchard and meadowland as well as attract new native species and pollinators to support the natural development and growth of the area.

It will be primarily developed, installed and maintained by the Halewood Park Volunteer group.

Tony Day, chairperson of the group, said: “As Halewood Park Volunteers, our home is Halewood Triangle Park, and we have recently planted a new community orchard that we are now in a position to expand and diversify to the wider meadowland within the park. With Redrow’s donation, we will be building bee posts and a habitat board so we can educate the local community on the species of plants, meadowland and habitats and hopefully encourage more people to visit the park.”

The group welcomes people of all backgrounds and abilities to join. Volunteers range in age from 16-year-olds doing the Duke of Edinburgh to people over 70. Employees of local businesses also take part in outreach days.

Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW, said: “It’s so apt that this project is called H.O.M.E as it’s really at the heart of this community. Our community funds aim to support groups at the heart of communities where we build homes, and it’s so wonderful that the volunteers are constantly working hard to enhance their local area.”

Halewood Park Volunteers work closely with the local ranger who is also involved in arranging additional outreach programmes with schools and the local community, including foraging walks.

The money received by the group came from our £10,000 Halewood community fund that has been shared between 12 groups and good causes close to the Hilton Grange development.
