The donation made by Redrow South East as part of its Community Fund, has enabled MS Swale to purchase team shirts and two rollators, also known as walkers or walking frames, supporting people who need help with walking to participate in the games, and sit on the rollators when needed.
MS Swale, based in Sittingbourne, Kent, is a volunteer-run charity that predominantly supports those living with multiple sclerosis or a neurological disability, though anyone is welcome to join.
It provides social events and outings to combat loneliness and isolation, regular support meetings with external speakers, and physical activities, from personal training, to yoga, and para-bowls. It’s para-bowls team is made up of 20 players, trains once a week and participates in competitions. Many of the team members bowl from wheelchairs, enabling them to independently participate in the sport.
Brenda Fathers, Chair of MS Swale, said: “Participating in sports is vital for people of all ages, and it can be particularly beneficial for those with a neurological disability, or multiple sclerosis, as it enables people to keep active and socialise, enhancing their mental and physical wellbeing."
“The donation from Redrow has not only enabled more members to independently participate in para-bowls, but it has a positive knock-on effect for their friends, families and the wider community, as members are happier and healthier."“At MS Swale, we are entirely volunteer run and rely on generous donations from local businesses to support the work we do, particularly as we have no set member fee and simply ask for voluntary donations where possible.”
“At Redrow, we understand the role that local sports organisations play in creating healthy, thriving communities, and we’re looking forward to supporting many more throughout our community fund and in the future.”
