Redrow has revealed a sneak peek into the commissioned public art installation at its newest development, Plaza Central, in Ebbsfleet Green. The public art piece, titled ‘Yerth Threddle’ is being led by sculptor Liz Middleton and will be unveiled in its entirety over the summer.
The artwork has been inspired by the voices and experiences of the local community, who wanted to recognise the importance of nature and community to them. It also reflects the area’s history and celebrates the coming together of people in nature through the setting down of cherry tree roots and planting throughout the sculpture.
The installation began in March and will be finished over the coming weeks, with an official unveiling set for the summer.
Stuart Galloway, Sales Director at Redrow South East, comments: “At Redrow we are committed to delivering a better way to live for all of our residents, and recognise how nature and the arts can help promote wellbeing and a sense of place within our new Ebbsfleet community. It’s been great to see this philosophy come to life through the public art piece Liz is creating. In particular, it has been good to see how Liz has incorporated nature into the sculpture to bring the concept to life.”
Liz has been trained in fine art and traditional stone carving. Her artistic practice includes site-specific art, creating a beautiful synergy between creativity and the local community to celebrate the local heritage and enhance people’s experiences on the development.
Commenting on the artwork, sculptor Liz Middleton, said: “The rich historic background of Ebbsfleet makes it an incredibly special place. From prehistoric archaeological finds through to its industrial heritage, as well as the lives of the people living here today – there was so much to draw inspiration from. The residents really wanted the artwork to celebrate nature and the importance of community to them. I’ve tried to reflect that not through a single art object, but by creating a place they can be in and experience, an optimistic and playful space that speaks of our connection to nature and each other.”
