Halton Haven Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people from Halton and surrounding areas who are living with terminal conditions. As it is not part of the NHS, the charity relies on donations so it can continue to provide care for patients and support to their families.
The hospice’s dedicated fundraising team applied to our Daresbury community fund, linked to Daresbury Garden Village on Delph Lane, for funding to cover every day running costs.
Jackie Douglas, grants, trusts and legacies officer at the hospice, said: “It costs £6,370 a day to run our in-patient unit and day hospice. Our main goals are the control of symptoms and pain as well as looking after the psychological, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of our patients and their families.
“We are keeping the legacy that was created by our founder, Dom Valdez, alive and going from strength to strength but to do that we need support via donations.”
The hospice has a full calendar of yearly events, all of which are enthusiastically supported by the local community including the ever-popular annual Santa Dash, Light Up a Life remembrance service and Tea at Three butterfly release.
Chris Edwards, area sales manager at Redrow NW, said: “Halton Haven Hospice is such an important part of the Halton community. They’ve been providing care for 40 years, which is a huge milestone, and we were more than pleased to give them a portion of our community fund so they can continue their vital work.”
The £6,000 fund has been shared between nine groups and good causes local to Daresbury Garden Village.
