Redrow South West, which is currently building at Saxon Brook, on Blackmore Drive, has donated £1,500 to Friends of Willowbank as part of its Community Fund initiative.
Friends of Willowbank is a group of parents, carers and teachers who meet regularly to organise events and fundraise for Willowbank Primary School in Cullompton. The group has previously run fundraisers to help contribute towards the cost of a new sound system, lunchtime equipment and the Year 6 leavers’ trip.
The funds received from Redrow South West will go towards the building of an outdoor classroom, updated play area and sensory garden within the school. The project will support 250 pupils who attend the school, as well as future pupils. The outdoor garden will help support pupils with outdoor learning, and will also function as a community space, hosting a baby and toddler group and many other events for local residents.
The group plans to make the outdoor classroom wheelchair accessible, as Willowbank Primary School has its first pupil who is a wheelchair user and there is also a special educational needs group at the school who will also benefit from outside learning, which has been shown to have mental health and behavioural benefits.
Sami Tucker, Chairperson at Friends of Willowbank: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the valuable support from Redrow Homes for this exciting project which will help generations of children coming through Willowbank Primary School for years to come.
“We hope that the ability to allow our students to actively take their learning outside will aid their learning – but getting children out and enjoying nature on regular basis is something that we wholeheartedly support here at Willowbank. Friends of Willowbank are so proud to be working closely with the First Federation Trust in order to give our students so many opportunities and facilities like this.”
Sian Smith, Sales Director at Redrow South West, said: “We are proud to be supporting Friends of Willowbank and helping them in their journey to make Willowbank Primary School a more accessible and inclusive space for its current and future pupils.
“Here at Redrow, we’re committed to creating and supporting thriving communities, and we understand how important it is that local organisations get the support they need to provide the best education and care for children and their families. We hope our donation will help the group to continue their wonderful work.”
