Redrow South West, currently building at Badbury Park, on Homington Avenue, has donated £600 to The GAP Swindon, as part of its Community Fund initiative.
The fund, which is now in its second year, enables organisations and charities to apply for donations that will help them thrive, with local causes encouraged to submit applications for their share of a £10,000 pot.
The GAP Swindon is a community garden project in Carstairs Avenue, Park South Swindon, that started in 2020 and welcomes people of all ages to learn about nature and growing plants, vegetables and flowers. It is also a space for people to enjoy the environment around them, be social and meet new people. The team consists of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about supporting their community, as well as ensuring the community has green spaces available.
The funds received from us will go towards making the garden more accessible for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. This involves installing raised garden beds and easy-access plots, alongside a sensory space and a junior garden area to ensure everyone can actively participate in the garden.
Matthew French, Chair of the GAP Swindon, said: “We are so grateful for the support Redrow has given to our community garden project in Park South. This funding will enable us to develop and sustain our planned projects over the next 12 months, giving us the means to purchase essential items for the site such as bulbs, seeds, tools and signage. Thank you once again to Redrow for their help!”
Sian Smith, Sales Director at Redrow South West, said: “The GAP Swindon is an important part of the community, and the volunteers work hard to provide a space for people of all ages to learn about and embrace nature.
“The GAP Swindon’s values align with ours, understanding the connection between the richness of biodiversity and mental wellbeing, so it made sense to support them in their hard work. At Redrow, we strive to ensure our thriving communities have access to open green spaces to reap the benefits of nature!”
